President Amy Gutmann offers condolences and support in wake of Myanmar cyclone, Chinese earthquake
May 14, 2008
Over the past two weeks our global community has witnessed profound tragedy and suffering in the nations of China and Myanmar.
The University of Pennsylvania would like to extend its condolences to the people of those countries, the families and friends of those affected by the recent disasters there, and those in the Penn community who are mourning these horrible events.
With the death toll from the Myanmar cyclone estimated to be between 60,000 and 120,000 and that of the Chinese earthquake more than 65,000, we understand that some students, faculty and staff may be worried about loved ones in the affected areas or could be having difficulty coping with enormity of these disasters.
Please know that Penn offers a variety of counseling and support services that may help you through this difficult time. The thoughts and prayers of our entire campus community are with you.
