Lev Ponomarev, executive director of the All-Russian Movement for Human Rights is a member of the executive committee of A Different Russia, a pro-democracy political organization. He is also a co-founder of Memorial, Russia's first organization dedicated to recovering and preserving the memory of victims of political repression.

A panel discussion following the lecture will feature William Burke-White and Benjamin Nathans. Robert Arsenault will introduce and moderate discussion
