PHILADELPHIA â The University of Pennsylvania Division of Public Safety, in conjunction with the Philadelphia Police Department, will kick off the annual Share the Road bicycle safety campaign on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 11 a.m. in front of the Penn Bookstore, 36th and Walnut streets. The event will conclude with a press conference at noon.
The Share the Road campaign educates bicyclists and motorists about local laws and basic safety practices.
The event features members of the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, PennCycle, Neighborhood Bike Works, Keswick Cycle, the Undergraduate Assembly, the Graduate and Professional Student Assembly and Pennâs Medical Emergency Response Team who will be on site to answer questions about bike safety.
âThis safety campaign gives us an opportunity to collaborate with important stakeholders such as the City of Philadelphia Streets Department and bicycle-advocate groups to get safety information out to bicyclists, pedestrians and motorists,â Maureen S. Rush, Pennâs vice president for public safety, said. âWe work together to educate the community on ways that everyone can âshare the roadâ respectfully.â
The Share the Road event will address the changes in the bike lanes along Walnut Street, as well as deliver safety tips for those pedestrians and bicyclists using the South Street Bridge.
