Two prominent athletic conferences, the Big Ten Conference and the Ivy League, announced on Tuesday a new collaboration to study the effects of concussions and other head injuries on athletes, a growing concern in recent years. The two conferences, which represent 20 institutions, hope to tap into their combined resource of 17,500 athletes to collect data on the rate of head injuries. Researchers may conduct long-term studies on the effects of concussions as the students move on from college.
