Penn Guardian quickens response time in an emergency Launched this fall, Penn Guardian is designed to help first responders locate people in need of assistance using a global positioning system (GPS). The new service allows the Division of Public Safety's communications center, known as PennComm, to identify the GPS coordinates of registered cells phones and provide help if needed.
Two students from the School of Veterinary Medicine have won the 2010 Penn Vet Student Inspiration Awards, the largest monetary prizes given to students in the field. Nikkita Patel and Brittany Gross were each awarded $100,000, provided by the Vernon and Shirley Hill Foundation, to use toward fulfilling their veterinary missions.
The exhibition "Wharton Esherick and the Birth of the American Modern" considers the artist's evolution, detailing his experiences with dance and the theater, his first attempts with wood, and his friendships with some of the most creative people of his day. The show is on display through Feb. 13, 2011.
A recent Penn Medicine study has found a correlation between exposure to violence and hospitalizations and emergency room visits in adults with moderate to severe asthma. The study was published in the September issue of The Journal of Allergy & Clinical Immunology.
