Penn co-sponsors 19th Annual Philadelphia Film Festival Penn is co-sponsoring the 19th Annual Philadelphia Film Festival, bringing more than one-third of the fair's films to theaters on or near campus. The 10-day event, which runs Oct. 14 to 24, features 216 screenings of more than 100 domestic and international narrative and documentary films, as well as short films.
Popular Science magazine has named Penn Engineering's Katherine Kuchenbecker to its annual "Brilliant 10" list of the country's top young scientists to watch. Kuchenbecker, the Skirkanich Assistant Professor of Innovation in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics, is the director of the Haptics Lab.
Before the above-ground sports fields, trees and public spaces of Penn Park are installed and ready to use, crews are making vast improvements and preparations beneath the surface. The massive project is still on schedule to be completed by the beginning of the Fall 2011 semester.
Those who use Penn Transit may be familiar with the big, white buses that transport faculty, students and staff between Fitler Square and West Philadelphia. But soon all of the low-emission vehicles will bear bright red, green and sky-blue wraps, boasting their "cleaner, greener" environmental profiles.
