PHILADELPHIA -- Joan Hendricks has been appointed to a second term as dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
PHILADELPHIA – National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Francis Collins, MD, PhD, will join Penn scientists and physicians in celebrating the opening of the new Translational Research Center (TRC) Tuesday. The TRC is the first medical research building on the Penn campus - and one of the first anywhere - to be physically integrated into facilities for patient care, namely the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine and the Roberts Proton Therapy Center. PHILADELPHIA –- Leaders in health care, urban planning and public health will meet for the first time May 5 in New York to discuss ways to improve practice and policy to address unique health challenges of women in cities.
“Healthy Cities: Healthy Women” will be a forum on the health of women, the health impact of living in an urban environment and the practice of public health. It is a project of the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, the Penn Alumni Relations office and the Trustees’ Council of Penn Women.
PHILADELPHIA – University of Pennsylvania professor Kaja Silverman has received the Andrew W. Mellon, Foundation Distinguished Achievement Award in recognition of her exemplary contributions to humanistic scholarship. Silverman, who is the Katherine Stein Sachs CW’69 and Keith L. Sachs W’67 Professor of Art History, will receive a $1.5 million dollar award to be used over approximately six years in support of her scholarly pursuits as a visual theorist.
PHILADELPHIA -- Three University of Pennsylvania leaders will be recognized for their commitment to child advocacy this Wednesday, April 13. President Amy Gutmann will receive The Judge Lois G. Forer Child Advocacy Award, and Richard Gelles, dean of the School of Social Policy and Practice, and Ira Harkavy, director of the Netter Center for Community Partnerships, will be recognized as Distinguished Advocates for Children by Philadelphia’s Support Center for Child Advocates.
