Guthrie Ramsey Co-Curates Smithsonian Institution Exhibition

PHILADELPHIA – Guthrie Ramsey, a University of Pennsylvania music professor, is co-curator of a new exhibition at the Smithsonian Institution called "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing: How the Apollo Theater Shaped American Entertainment.

"Presented by the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture in collaboration with the Apollo Theater Foundation, the exhibition premiered in the NMAAHC Gallery in Washington, D.C., continues through Aug. 29.  It will travel to Detroit in October and then on to New York in 2011.

“Ancient Rome & America,” a National Constitution Center exhibition co-curated by Campbell Grey of Classical Studies, showcases the cultural, political and social connections between long-ago Rome and the U.S.

Gene Therapy Success Sets Stage for New Treatments for Inherited Blindness, Penn Veterinary Researchers Say

PHILADELPHIA –- Veterinary vision scientists at the University of Pennsylvania have safely and successfully used a viral vector in targeting a class of photoreceptors of the retina called rods, a critical first step in developing gene therapies for inherited blindness caused by rod degeneration.

Vice President Biden Will Speak at Penn’s School of Social Policy & Practice Commencement

PHILADELPHIA –- Vice President Joe Biden, father of a 2010 graduate, will speak at the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy & Practice’s Commencement on Monday, May 17, at 7 p.m. in Irvine Auditorium.

Biden, a Pennsylvania native, was one of the youngest people ever elected to the U.S. Senate and is widely recognized for his work on social-justice issues, including the landmark 1994 Crime Bill and the Violence Against Women Act.

Penn GSE Researcher Explores African-American Family Foundations, Philanthropic-Giving Strategies

Gene Therapy Cures Canines of Inherited Form of Day Blindness, Penn Veterinary Researchers Say

PHILADELPHIA –- Veterinary ophthalmology researchers from the University of Pennsylvania have used gene therapy to restore retinal cone function and day vision in two canine models of congenital achromatopsia, also called rod monochromacy or total color blindness.
