PHILADELPHIA –- An international study led by biologists and neuroscientists from the University of Pennsylvania has identified a new genetic risk factor for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Local Youth in Penn’s Service Learning, Internship Programs Earn PYN Recognition

 PHILADELPHIA –- West Philadelphia teens who took part in summer programs sponsored by the Netter Center for Community Partnerships at the University of Pennsylvania have been honored by the Philadelphia Youth Network, the agency that provided the funding.  Students working in a cooperative Netter Center/University City District internship program were also recognized.

University of Pennsylvania Makes Top 20 in Sierra Club List of ‘America’s 100 Greenest Schools’

PHILADELPHIA –- The University of Pennsylvania came in at No. 19 –- up from No. 45 last year -- in the Sierra Club Magazine’s ranking of colleges it believes are doing the most for the planet.

Penn was cited particularly for its Green Fund program, which awards grants to faculty, staff or students for innovative sustainability proposals.  According to the September/October issue of the magazine, “Penn spurs competition to help execute its Climate Action Plan.”

Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania Invites the Community to Sign the "Treaty of Renewed Friendship"

Long before the first Swedish settlers, before William Penn’s arrival, before there was a Declaration of Independence and then a United States of America, the Lenape people lived and thrived in Philadelphia and a wide region that included what is now eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and southern New York.  The history and culture of the Lenape Indians is an integral part of this region.
