Penn Welcomes African Visitors Through a State Department Program, Grassroots Democracy in the U.S.

The University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education hosted 15 leaders from more than nine African countries for a conversation on public deliberation in the United States and how it can apply to communities in Africa.

The leaders came to learn more about U.S. organizations that increase civic engagement and citizen participation in democratic governance.

PennMOVES Sale Will Be Held Saturday, June 2

WHAT:          PennMOVES, now in its fifth year, is an effort to find a home for items University of Pennsylvania students leave behind at the end of the academic year. 

Clothes, furniture, kitchen gear, electronics and more have been collected and sorted and will be offered for sale, with proceeds going to Goodwill Industries.

All items are sold “as is” with no returns accepted.

WHO:            The public is invited.

Georgia Higher Education Policies Hurt Blacks, Hispanics and Poor, Penn Study Finds

PHILADELPHIA — Georgia’s higher education policies are making it harder for black, Hispanic and poor Georgians to get a college education, according to a new report released by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania’s Institute for Research on Higher Education.

Penn Pilots More Sustainability Projects Through Another Round of Green Fund Grants

PHILADELPHIA – The Penn Green Campus Partnership has awarded five Green Fund grants ranging from a comprehensive recycling center within the School of Engineering and Applied Science to a behavior-change project focusing on water conservation. This spring’s grants bring the total number of Green Fund projects to 41.
