Creation of Abstract Sculpture From Sticks, Saplings to Commence March 30 at Morris Arboretum

PHILADELPHIA –- Visitors to the University of Pennsylvania’s Morris Arboretum are invited to watch as world-renowned sculptor Patrick Dougherty uses tree saplings, fallen branches and other forest material to create a large-scale sculpture, beginning March 30.

As artist-in-residence for three weeks this spring at the Arboretum, Dougherty will be aided by volunteers and staff as he fashions this unique work of art on the banks of the Wissahickon Creek within the Arboretum’s grounds.

Once Parking Lots, Now a Park: University of Pennsylvania Converts Postal Lands to Open Space

PHILADELPHIA –- The University of Pennsylvania announced today that Penn Park, a $40 million green swath of open space and athletic fields, will replace 14 acres of asphalt parking lots once owned by the United States Postal Service.

450 Grade Schoolers Build Lego Robots, Study Climate Change at Penn Engineering's First Lego League Tourney

Penn’s School of Engineering and Applied Science is sponsoring Philadelphia First Lego League Tournament, an event that pits 30 regional middle schools and 450 students against each other in a challenge to design robots and explore climate change. The theme of this year’s competition, Climate Connections: Building a Global Game Plan, includes robotics demonstrations.
