Designer of Penn's Weave Bridge Will Be on Hand for Ribbon-cutting, Dedication Thursday, May 7

WHAT:

A dedication/ribbon-cutting for the Weave Bridge that provides pedestrian access over the Amtrak rail lines from the main portion of the University of Pennsylvania campus to the athletic fields and ROTC center at the Hollenback Center.

The Weave Bridge is the first structure in the Penn Connects campus development plan to be finished.

University of Pennsylvania Recognized by EPA as Top Green Power Purchaser in the Nation

PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Pennsylvania has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as the nation’s leading purchaser of green power among institutions of higher learning.

Penn led by purchasing nearly 193 million kilowatt-hours of green power, which represents 46 percent of the school’s annual electricity usage. The University buys renewable energy certificates from Community Energy, which helps to reduce the environmental impacts associated with the campus’ purchased-electricity use.

Penn GSE Professor Named Fellow of the International Youth Library in Munich

PHILADELPHIA — Lawrence Sipe, a professor in the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education, has been named a Fellow of Munich’s International Youth Library, a collection of more than 600,000 children’s books. The fellowship began on March 1 and will end May 31. Sipe is an authority in early-childhood literacy development.
