PHILADELPHIA –- The University of Pennsylvania will remember Martin Luther King Jr. with a “Commemorative Symposium on Social Change” and nearly two weeks of special events, including lectures, films and discussions on the Penn campus from Jan. 15 to 30.
Mayor Michael Nutter to Deliver Keynote Address at Black Men at Penn's Fifth-Anniversary Gala Fundraiser
PHILADELPHIA — Mayor Michael Nutter will deliver the keynote address at the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice’s Black Men at Penn fifth-anniversary gala on Jan. 15 at 5:30 p.m. in Penn’s Huntsman Hall.
PHILADELPHIA -- University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann will moderate a panel of scholars from across the University as they discuss a sustainable environment as part of Penn’s annual Founder’s Day Symposium, 3-5 p.m., Friday, Jan. 16.
Gutmann was the first Ivy League president to sign the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment, pledging that Penn will significantly reduce emissions that contribute to global warming.
As was announced late last week, PENN Medicine has lost a good friend and dear colleague with the death of John “JP” Pryor. Dr. Pryor was working in Iraq as an Army trauma surgeon when he was felled by enemy fire on Christmas Day. John was an exceptional human being who truly lived his values everyday. He felt a special obligation to use his skills to help those serving our country and the many innocent victims of war. Sadly, this admirable trait put him in harm’s way one last time.

PHILADELPHIA — The Center for High Impact Philanthropy at the University of Pennsylvania has released its first investment guide for philanthropists seeking to make a meaningful impact on a core issue in the U.S. educational system: stopping the flood of at-risk students who fail to develop the skills necessary to become productive, self-reliant adults.

Penn President Amy Gutmann and Other Penn Faculty Participate in Summit on the Global Agenda in Dubai
PHILADELPHIA – Amy Gutmann, president of the University of Pennsylvania, was among world leaders participating in the Summit on the Global Agenda, a project of the World Economic Forum held in Dubai.
The inaugural Summit, held Nov. 7-9, was a gathering of the world’s most influential thinkers, including leaders from academia, business, government and society. Its purpose is to advance solutions to the most critical challenges facing humanity.
