Lynn Marsden-Atlass Named Director of the Arthur Ross Gallery at the University of Pennsylvania

PHILADELPHIA — Lynn Marsden-Atlass, senior curator of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, has been named director of the Arthur Ross Gallery at the University of Pennsylvania, effective March 3.

“This is a great day for Penn’s arts and culture community,” Penn Provost Ron Daniels said. “We are indeed fortunate to welcome to Penn a nationally known curator and educator with Lynn’s remarkable range of experience.”

Congressman Chakah Fattah Will Speak at Penn on Diversity in the Nursing Profession

PHILADELPHIA –- U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah will speak about the need for diversity in nursing, a profession in which 95 percent of registered nurses are white women and the median age is 45, on Monday, Feb. 11, from noon to 1 p.m. at the University of Pennsylvania.

The seminar, sponsored by the Penn School of Nursing, will be held in the Bodeck Lounge of Houston Hall on the Penn campus.

The event is free and open to the public.

Penn Names Eric J. Furda New Dean of Admissions

Eric J. Furda, vice president for alumni relations and former executive director of undergraduate admissions at Columbia University, has been named dean of admissions at the University of Pennsylvania. Furda, a 1987 Penn graduate, will assume his position as dean on July 1, 2008.

Penn Joins National College Recycling Competition

PHILADELPHIA –- The University of Pennsylvania has joined with more than 100 colleges and universities in RecyleMania, a friendly competition to help reduce waste. From Jan. 28 to April 1, campuses across the country will compete to see which institution can collect the largest amount of recyclables per capita, the largest amount of total recyclables and the least amount of trash per capita. There will also be a competition for the highest recycling rate.

PHILADELPHIA – The Fels Institute of Government at the University of Pennsylvania has launched a nonpartisan Web site devoted to monitoring and analyzing government-reform proposals made by the 2008 presidential candidates.

TheNextGovernment.com (www.TheNextGovernment.com) is an effort to stimulate public discussion about the most significant challenges and issues facing the federal government.

”Beyond Boundaries” at Penn’s Arthur Ross Gallery

 

PHILADELPHIA — “Beyond Boundaries: Contemporary Fiber Art,” which opens at the University of Pennsylvania’s Arthur Ross Gallery on Jan. 19, presents six artists whose works are rooted in traditional textile studies but are far from traditional weavers: Lanny Bergner, Yvonne Pacanovsky Bobrowicz, Nancy Koenigsberg, Rebecca Medel, Warren Seelig and Tsuguo Yanai.
