Web Communications Group Meeting: 12-06-05
Meeting minutes
I. Leaders of the individual working groups provided
brief updates on their group's progress:
A. Content Management System Working
Group
-
- A representative from Hannon Hill performed
a demonstration of their CMS product entitled Cascade Server. The group
was very impressed with
the product.
- The Medical School web staff invited WCG dmembers to their office for
a presentation on the Macromedia
Contribute product that they are currently
using.
- The group plans to have a demo by OmniUpdate sometime
in the next couple of months.
B. Digital Asset Management System Working Group -
- The group met with the Penn Library web staff in November where they
were given a demonstration on how the Library staff manages their
vast catalog of digital assets. The demonstration focused on how the
Library web staff manages assets in the University
Archives Digital Image Collection.
- SAS recently purchased and installed a new digital asset management system
titled Extensis
Portfolio and agreed to demonstrate the system to the DAMS working
group in early 2006.
C. Web Analytics Working Group -
- This group still has no leader. The WCG will wait for the other working
groups to wrap up and then have someone volunteer to lead this group.
D. RSS Working Group -
- The group has started to discuss how the central Penn web could aggregate
RSS feeds from the other Penn schools.
II. RSS Presentation: "What is RSS?" By Sanjay Modi, IT Project Leader for
Knowledge@Wharton
- This presentation is available for viewing in Power Point format.
- There was a brief discussion after the presentation on the what role
the central Penn web could play in RSS distribution.
- The group also discussed concerns of content ownership and problems that
may arise from RSS content distribution.
III. University Communications informed the group that they will propose a
redesign of the central Penn web for fiscal year 2007
and
that
the
WCG may be used as a forum for committee members to give their input and
ideas regarding this project.
