SPECIAL TOPICS - STUDENT RECORDS

  Guidance for Staff and Faculty:
Faculty and staff should be aware of the privacy protections for student records at Penn. They may share student records with University officials with a "legitimate educational interest" - in other words, where the information is required or would be helpful in the performance of his or her duties, or in the pursuit of an enterprise sanctioned by the University. However, in other situations, faculty and staff should seek consent from the student to share information through the online consent form or the paper consent form, unless a specific exception exists.
