  Health Information

The federal HIPAA law regulates the use of health information on campus by “covered components” at Penn – including UPHS, the School of Medicine, the School of Dental Medicine, Student Health Services, the Living Independently for Elders Program, and the Human Resources Health Insurance programs. Members of the workforce in these programs must have HIPAA training and are advised to promote reminders of Key HIPAA Principles. Other areas at Penn should recognize that even if HIPAA is not directly applicable, health information remains sensitive and should be protected against inappropriate use, sharing, and handling.
