  • Membership Services Representative

    Directly support the Assistant Director of Membership & Marketing within the Membership Office.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: membership, locker and program sales, providing members with program/facility information and other general administrative duties as assigned.  This position will also be responsible for addressing members’ questions or concerns about policies, facilities, and/or programs in person, over the phone and via email.

    Qualifications: Excellent communication, strong customer service skills and a pleasant attitude are required. Background or working knowledge of sports and recreation is preferred.

  • Membership Services Representative – Tennis Center

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: instructing the fundamentals of tennis to children between the ages of 3-17, prior high school and/or college playing experience as well as experience teaching.  Excellent communications skills and a pleasant attitude are required.  Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, and not a potential NCAA prospect.

    Qualifications: Excellent communication, strong customer service skills and a pleasant attitude are required. Background or working knowledge of tennis programming and facilities is preferred.

  • Camp Counselor – Tennis Center

    Directly support the front desk manager within the Tennis Office. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing members with program/facility information and other general administrative duties as assigned. This position will also be responsible for addressing members’ questions or concerns about policies, facilities, and/or programs in person, over the phone and via email.

  • Climbing Wall Attendant

    Assist with the daily operation and risk management of the climbing wall.  Staff utilizes a strong customer service approach with patrons and promotes climbing wall usage in general.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: signing in climbers, inspecting equipment, educating patrons on program offerings, and supporting special events and climbing parties.  This position requires evening and/or weekend hours.  Opportunities within the position also exist for teaching climbing instruction and route setting.

    Qualifications: Applicants must have previous climbing experience and have knowledge of the different types of climbing offered at the climbing wall.  Must be belay certified at the Penn Rec climbing wall or able to pass a belay test immediately upon hire.  Previous experience teaching basic climbing technique preferred, but not required.

  • Outdoor Adventure Assistant Guide

    The Outdoor Adventure Assistant Guide is responsible for helping to plan and co-lead outdoor adventure trips for the Penn community. Duties will include trip planning, marketing of trips, equipment maintenance, logistical support, and co-leading groups on various day or multi-day outdoor adventure trips. Applicants must have experience in one or more of the following disciplines: Hiking, Backpacking, Rock Climbing, Canoe/Kayaking, Cross-Country Skiing, Mountain Biking. Past experience leading outdoor trips is a plus, but not necessary. Must have or are willing to obtain CPR and Wilderness First Aid certifications.

  • Website Assistant

    Assist with design and layout of Department of Recreation promotional materials (flyers, brochures, ads).  Use WordPress to make updates to department website.

  • Group Exercise Instructor

    Group Exercise Instructors lead members in a group environment through safe, effective, and motivating exercise classes including Spinning, Body Pump, Body Combat, Freestyle, Zumba, and more. Instructors are prepared to instruct each class matching the set class description.  Certification, experience and current CPR are required.

  • Instructional Class Instructor

    Instructors provide safe, effective, and motivating instructional classes to the pre-registered participants through Dance, Yoga, Pilates, Martial Arts, Golf, and more. Instructors are prepared to instruct each class matching the set class description. Certification, experience and current CPR required.

  • Intramural Office Assistant

    Support the Assistant Director for Intramurals, Special Events and Programs with organizing and coordinating team/individual competitions and/or tournaments for the Penn community.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: supervising intramural sports and events, planning and implementing competitions, developing marketing materials for future intramural programs/activities, and enforcing rules and regulations.

    Qualifications: No prior training is required.  A general knowledge of the particular sport or event is recommended.  Strong interpersonal and customer service skills are required.

  • Intramural Official 

    Officiate and supervise intramural sporting events that consist of student based teams within the Penn Rec intramural leagues. Officials are needed for various sports such as basketball, softball, flag football and soccer. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: officiating intramural sports activities, ensuring a safe environment for sport participants, enforcing sports rules and monitoring sportsmanship among teams. Assertiveness and a strong knowledge of the rules for each sport officiated are necessary.

    Qualifications: Ability to officiate multiple intramural sports, willing to work evening and/or weekends as required, and ability to perform physical labor which includes running, standing and lifting materials or equipment up to 50 lbs. Completion of the intramural sports training clinic prior to officiating is required

  • Lifeguard

    Provide a safe and pleasant aquatic atmosphere by enforcing rules and act as a resource when needed.  Must be proactive in preventing accidents and respond quickly to all emergency situations including administration of emergency care to any person injured in the pool area.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: inspecting pool for cleanliness, reporting issues to the Aquatics Coordinator, establishing and maintaining good customer service and providing assistance to all patrons.  It is the lifeguard’s sole responsibility to maintain their fitness and skill set in order to respond to any emergency either in the water or on the pool deck.

    Qualifications: Lifeguard and CPR/AED (American Red Cross preferred) certifications required.

  • 1:1 Swim Instructor

    Candidates for this position must have swimming experience at least through a high school varsity team and prior experience teaching. Candidates will be asked about intimate knowledge of swim training, including drills and technique questions, and will also be asked to swim. Candidates must be WSI certified (or equivalent), must be CPR/AED certified, and need to provide two references.

  • Group Swim Instructors

    Candidates for this position must have prior group teaching experience and it is encouraged that they be former swimmers of any level. Candidates should be CPR/AED certified and must provide two references.

  • Massage Therapist

    Therapists provide table and chair massage services on and off-site to members and non-members of Penn Recreation.  Licensure, experience, and current CPR are required.

  • Recreation Assistant

    The Recreation Assistant has an active role through three areas of focus including customer service, facility safety, and facility upkeep. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assisting patrons by answering questions, providing class monitoring for the group exercise program, promoting department programs, maintaining towel service, and ensuring all fitness rooms and programming areas are clean, neat, and safe.

    Qualifications: Excellent communication, strong customer service skills and ability to work effectively with a wide variety of constituencies. Previous experience in a health and recreation facility is strongly preferred. Basic knowledge of fitness equipment, ability to bend and lift items weighing a minimum of 50 pounds and current CPR/ED certification (training will be offered if employed) is required.

  • Personal Trainer

    Develop and implement individualized exercise programs for students, faculty and staff including one-on-one fitness evaluations and exercise sessions.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assisting clients in reaching their specific health and fitness goals via consultation, assessments and exercise instruction (including proper education on training form and technique).  Starting hourly rate ranges from $20.00 – $25.00.

    Qualifications: A current Personal Training Certification from a NCCA accredited organization (ACE, ACSM, NSCA, NASM, etc.), current CPR/AED certification required, strong interpersonal skills, willingness to learn, and a personal commitment to fitness and wellness.
