Statement of Risk

Consulting a physician and receiving proper clearance prior to beginning an exercise regimen is strongly encouraged. Exercise may cause dizziness, exhaustion, or other symptoms that may put you at risk for injury. If you experience any physical abnormality immediately stop exercising and contact the facility staff on duty. All personal injuries must be reported immediately to the facility staff on duty.

Violation of any facility guideline may result in suspension of membership privileges.

  • ID Requirements – A valid PennCard is required for entrance into any Campus Recreation facility. An exception can be made if a patron does not have his/her PennCard, but a government-issued photo I.D. MUST be provided. If you forget your PennCard more than two times in any given semester you will be denied entry into any Recreation facility.
    • Giving your PennCard/Rec Guest Card to another person to gain entry to any Campus Recreation facility is prohibited.
  • Age Requirements – Members and guests must be 18 years of age or older to access fitness areas and weight rooms. Dependent members/guests under 18 years of age must enter the facility with an adult/guardian who must also remain in the facility while it is being used by the dependent. Individuals under 18 years of age are prohibited from weight rooms, fitness areas, classes, and sauna. Members/guests 15 years of age and under must be directly supervised by an adult/guardian at all times.
    • Children 4 years of age and older are not permitted in opposite sex locker rooms. Single person changing rooms are available at both facilities.
  • Clothing Requirements – Boots, open toe footwear, pants with belts, cutoff pants, excessive jewelry, jeans, non-athletic pants/shorts, and revealing clothing are prohibited.
    • Non-marking athletic shoes are required on all wood floors, including the squash courts.
    • Non-casual, closed toe athletic footwear, t-shirts, and athletic shorts/pants must be worn at all times.
  • Secure your belongings – Bags and personal belongings must be secured in a locker and are not permitted in fitness areas and weight rooms. Individuals will be required to stop their workout and secure their items in a locker. Locks can be purchased at the Energy Zone for five dollars.
    • Recreation staff on duty are required to remove items left unattended or unsecured. Recovery fees and/or suspension of membership privileges will be levied against members/guests in violation.
  • Lost and Found – If you lose something at a Recreational facility please note that valuable items are handled differently than non-valuable items.
    • Valuables – Items such as wallets or cell phones are held in Membership Services. If the lost item includes any identifying information, staff from the Membership office will attempt to contact you directly. Items may be claimed in person during office hours and will require presentation of photo identification.
    • Non-Valuables – Items such as clothing or books are held for a period of two weeks. To claim items please have photo identification and speak with an Operations Supervisor. After a period of two weeks, unclaimed items are donated to a local charity.
  • Olympic Style Lifts – must be performed in the designated areas (platforms – 2nd-floor weight room).
    • Bumper plates and safety collars must be used at all times.
    • 45lb Urethane Troy Plates are not permitted on the platforms.
    • Only one person is permitted on the platform.
    • Do not remove equipment from this area.
    • Sneakers or weightlifting shoes are required on platforms at all times
  • Power Rack Lifts – must be performed in the designated areas (2nd-floor weight room).
    • Bars must be unloaded and plates must be re-racked when finished.
    • Lifts performed outside the racks are not permitted – you must use the Olympic Lifting platforms.
    • All lifts must be performed in the rack with the use of safety collars.
    • Sneakers or weightlifting shoes are required in the power racks at all times.
  • Intentional dropping the weights from the knee is not permitted in any fitness area.
  • Loose chalk is not permitted in any fitness area. Rosin bags are acceptable.
  • Members may not interfere with employee duties, use obscene language, or engage in verbal or physical abuse of employees or fellow members.
  • Members/guests are prohibited from placing items in a day use locker and leaving the facility. Likewise, members are required to clean out their day use locker prior to close.
  • Outside Personal Trainers are not permitted inside any Campus Recreation Facility.
  • Water or sports drinks in a closed, resealable container are allowed.  All other drinks and glass containers are prohibited in “activity” areas.
  • Skateboards, roller-skates, rollerblades and non-electric scooters are not allowed to be operated in the recreation facility under any circumstances.
  • Pets, with the exception of service animals, are not allowed.
  • The use of any photographic device including but not limited cameras, phones and wearable technology must not be used inside any Recreation Facility. For more information, click here.
