Business Services & Marketing

  • Membership Services Representative

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: membership, locker and program sales, providing members with program/facility information and other general administrative duties as assigned.  This position will also be responsible for addressing members’ questions or concerns about policies, facilities, and/or programs in person, over the phone and via email. Shifts are limited to Monday through Thursday, 9:30 am to 7:30 pm and Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.

    Qualifications: Excellent communication, strong customer service skills and a pleasant attitude are required. Background or working knowledge of sports and recreation is preferred.

The Penn Tennis Center & Ringe Squash Courts

          • Weekend Supervisor

            Provide weekend supervision and management of the Hecht Indoor Tennis Center and the Hamlin Outdoor Courts. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: supervision of student/part-time front desk staff, reconciling transactions at closing, enforcing policies and procedure, and representing the professional staff in their absence.

            Qualifications: Excellent communication, strong customer service skills and the ability to work evenings/weekends are required. Ability to delegate tasks to staff, strong conflict resolution skills, provide constructive feedback to further the development of the staff. Background or working knowledge of sports and recreation is preferred.

            Additional Training: Mandatory staff orientation and training will be provided at the beginning of each semester. There will also be mandatory monthly staff meetings and other training sessions as needed.

          • Membership Services Representative – Ringe Squash

            Directly support the Assistant Manager of Hecht/Hamlin Tennis & Ringe Squash. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: monitoring and scheduling squash court reservations, verifying memberships, providing Squash members with facility information and other general administrative duties as assigned. This position will also be responsible for addressing member’s questions or concerns about policies and the facility in person, over the phone and via email.

            Qualifications: Excellent communication, strong customer service skills and a pleasant attitude are required. Availability between 5 – 9 p.m. on weekdays.

          • Camp Counselor – Tennis Center

            Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: instructing the fundamentals of tennis to children between the ages of 3-17, prior high school and/or college playing experience as well as experience teaching.  Excellent communications skills and a pleasant attitude are required.  Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, and not a potential NCAA prospect.

            Qualifications: Excellent communication, strong customer service skills and a pleasant attitude are required. Background or working knowledge of tennis programming and facilities is preferred.

Outdoor Adventure & Climbing Wall

          • Climbing Wall Attendant

            Assist with the daily operation and risk management of the climbing wall.  Staff utilizes a strong customer service approach with patrons and promotes climbing wall usage in general.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: signing in climbers, inspecting equipment, educating patrons on program offerings, and supporting special events and climbing parties.  This position requires evening and/or weekend hours.  Opportunities within the position also exist for teaching climbing instruction and route setting.

            Qualifications: Applicants must have previous climbing experience and have knowledge of the different types of climbing offered at the climbing wall.  Must be belay certified at the Penn Rec climbing wall or able to pass a belay test immediately upon hire.  Previous experience teaching basic climbing technique preferred, but not required.

          • Outdoor Adventure Assistant Guide

            The Outdoor Adventure Assistant Guide is responsible for helping to plan and co-lead outdoor adventure trips for the Penn community. Duties will include trip planning, marketing of trips, equipment maintenance, logistical support, and co-leading groups on various day or multi-day outdoor adventure trips. Applicants must have experience in one or more of the following disciplines: Hiking, Backpacking, Rock Climbing, Canoe/Kayaking, Cross-Country Skiing, Mountain Biking. Past experience leading outdoor trips is a plus, but not necessary. Must have or are willing to obtain CPR and Wilderness First Aid certifications.

Intramural Sports & Sport Clubs

            • Sport Club Supervisor

              Serve as the main point of contact during all Sport Club practices and events.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: arrange, oversee, and execute set-up and tear down of facility and equipment, lead necessary conflict management processes, complete all necessary paperwork, attend staff training(s), and full knowledge of the Emergency Action Plan.

              Qualifications: Ability to delegate tasks to staff, strong conflict resolution skills, provide constructive feedback to further the development of the staff, officiate multiple intramural sports, willing to work evening and/or weekends as required, and ability to perform physical labor which includes running, standing and lifting materials or equipment up to 50 lbs.  Advanced knowledge of sports and events a plus and attendance of all staff training(s) is required.

            • Intramural Event Assistant

              Assist in the operation of all intramural, club sport, and special events. Event staff will support intramural officials and aid in the various club sport competitions and outside group rentals. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: set-up and tear down of facility and equipment, assisting with registration, scorekeeping, ensuring a safe environment for sport participants, and assisting in the execution of the Emergency Action Plan.

              Qualifications: Ability to work evening and/or weekends as required, and ability to perform physical labor which includes running, standing and lifting materials or equipment up to 50 lbs.  Beginner knowledge of sports and events a plus. Attendance of all staff training(s) is required.

            • Intramural Office Assistant 

              Support the Assistant Director for Intramurals, Special Events and Programs with organizing and coordinating team/individual competitions and/or tournaments for the Penn community. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: supervising intramural sports and events, planning and implementing competitions, developing marketing materials for future intramural programs/activities, and enforcing rules and regulations.

              Qualifications: No prior training is required. A general knowledge of the particular sport or event is recommended. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills are required. Attendance of all staff training(s) is required.

            • Intramural Official 

              Officiate and supervise intramural sporting events that consist of student based teams within the Penn Rec intramural leagues. Officials are needed for various sports such as basketball, softball, flag football and soccer. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: officiating intramural sports activities, set-up and tear down of facility and equipment, assisting with registration, scorekeeping, ensuring a safe environment for sport participants, enforcing sports rules and monitoring sportsmanship among teams. Assertiveness and a strong knowledge of the rules for each sport officiated are necessary.

              Qualifications: Ability to officiate multiple intramural sports, willing to work evening and/or weekends as required, and ability to perform physical labor which includes running, standing and lifting materials or equipment up to 50 lbs.  Completion of the intramural sports training clinic prior to officiating is required.

Fitness & Wellness

          • Group Exercise Instructor

            Group Exercise Instructors lead members in a group environment through safe, effective, and motivating exercise classes including Spinning, Body Pump, Body Combat, Freestyle, Zumba, and more. Instructors are prepared to instruct each class matching the set class description.  Certification, experience and current CPR are required.

          • Instructional Class Instructor

            Instructors provide safe, effective, and motivating instructional classes to the pre-registered participants through Dance, Yoga, Pilates, Martial Arts, Golf, and more. Instructors are prepared to instruct each class matching the set class description. Certification, experience and current CPR required.

          • Massage Therapist

            Therapists provide table and chair massage services on and off-site to members and non-members of Penn Recreation.  Licensure, experience, and current CPR are required.

          • Personal Trainer

            Develop and implement individualized exercise programs for students, faculty and staff including one-on-one fitness evaluations and exercise sessions.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assisting clients in reaching their specific health and fitness goals via consultation, assessments and exercise instruction (including proper education on training form and technique).

            Qualifications: A current Personal Training Certification from a NCCA accredited organization (ACE, ACSM, NSCA, NASM, etc.), current CPR/AED certification required, strong interpersonal skills, willingness to learn, and a personal commitment to fitness and wellness.

Aquatics

                • Lifeguard

                  Provide a safe and pleasant aquatic atmosphere by enforcing rules and acting as a resource when needed. Must be proactive in preventing accidents and respond quickly to all emergency situations including administration of emergency care to any person injured in the pool area.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: inspecting pool for cleanliness, reporting issues to the Aquatics Coordinator, establishing and maintaining good customer service and providing assistance to all patrons.  It is the lifeguard’s sole responsibility to maintain their fitness and skill set in order to respond to any emergency either in the water or on the pool deck.

                  Qualifications: American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification required. Previous lifeguard experience, preferred.

                • Aquatic Exercise Instructor

                  The Aquatic Exercise Instructor is expected to conduct water fitness classes, prepare class plans and routines in accordance with aquatic fitness standards, ensure safety and cleanliness of pool and class area, and ensure a positive, motivating, healthy and valuable experience for all participants.  Classes may include Aqua Zumba, Water Aerobics, Water Walking, and more.

                  Qualifications: Certification in water fitness is required. CPR/AED First Aid Certifications are preferred.

                • Swim Instructor

                  Develop and teach private and/or group swim lessons for Penn students, employees and their families. Students range from infants to adults.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assisting clients in achieving their swimming goal, keeping accurate records and providing support and encouragement when teaching new skills or enhancing existing skills.
                  Starting hourly rate: $20/hr.

                  Preferred Qualifications: Candidates for this position should have prior group or private lesson teaching experience and it is encouraged that they be former swimmers of any level and/or hold a  swim lesson instructor certification. However, prior experience is not required. Candidates will be asked about their swim instruction knowledge, and will also be asked to swim. Candidates should be prepared to provide a resume and references upon request.

Facility Operations

        • Operations Supervisor

          Assist in the daily supervision and management of the Pottruck Health and Fitness Center and the Hutchinson Gymnasium. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: daily supervision of student/part-time and aquatics staff, completing daily checklists, reviewing work orders and housekeeping charges, enforcing policies and procedure, and representing the professional staff in their absence.

          Qualifications: Excellent communication, strong customer service skills and the ability to work evenings/weekends as needed are required. Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification.

          Additional Training: Mandatory staff orientation and training will be provided at the beginning of each semester. There will also be mandatory monthly staff meetings and other training sessions as needed.

        • Recreation Assistant

          The Recreation Assistant has an active role through three areas of focus including customer service, facility safety, and facility upkeep. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assisting patrons by answering questions, providing class monitoring for the group exercise program, promoting department programs, maintaining towel service, and ensuring all fitness rooms and programming areas are clean, neat, and safe.

          Qualifications: Excellent communication, strong customer service skills and ability to work effectively with a wide variety of constituencies. Previous experience in a health and recreation facility is strongly preferred. Basic knowledge of fitness equipment, ability to bend and lift items weighing a minimum of 50 pounds and current CPR/ED certification (training will be offered if employed) is required.
