The Dance Program at Penn Campus Recreation
The dance program at Campus Recreation offers the opportunity to explore different genres of dance in a non-traditional, supportive environment. Your mind and body will be equally challenged on multiple levels. Classes will provide the platform to grow your artistic expression. Our talented and passionate instructors have developed courses to suit a variety of skill levels. Visit our online Innosoft Fusion Portal to view available class times and register. Hip Hop Dance
HIP HOP ALL LEVELS
This dance class incorporates a fusion of house dance, breaking, and athletic movements set to heart pumping hip-hop music. Get lost in energizing choreography that will challenge your stamina, muscle control, and precision! This class includes a warm-up, traveling sequences, floor work, and combinations. All experience levels are welcome!
HIP HOP GROOVES AND TECHNIQUE
In this course we will practice common styles and principles of movement in hip-hop dance, changing the theme week by week. We’ll learn basics of old school hip hop steps, popping, waving, gliding, house footwork, breakdancing footwork, and more, all while working on musicality and making dynamic combinations. Each class will focus on only one or two themes, building gradually on earlier classes – no previous dance experience necessary, just come ready to dive into the movement and the music. HIP HOP CHOREOGRAPHY (INTERMEDIATE)
In this course, students will learn a new hip-hop combination each week. The classes are designed to help develop students’ choreography pick-up, hip-hop vocabulary, control, the range of motion and other general dance strengths. It is recommended for people with some dance background who want to grow as dancers, or just want to join in the style of movement. Register online.
A basic class that introduces the student to the elementary positions of classical ballet. Classes are slow and thorough to ensure proper alignment and understanding. Suitable for the Beginning level dancer with basic or no background in Ballet. A faster pace than ballet basics but still taught with the Beginner in mind. Students will learn Barre and Center work with an introduction to jumps, leaps, and turns. Register online.
Principles of posture positioning and stance are taught at an advanced level and pace. Style and flexibility are emphasized. This class moves at a rapid pace and is appropriate for students with at least one year of ballet training and prior knowledge of simple turns and jumps. Register online.
