Who is eligible for a membership?
The following classifications within the Penn Community are eligible for membership:
- Student (graduate, part-time, visiting)
- Faculty/staff (full-time, part-time, and retiree)*
*HUP, UPHS, Presbyterian, CHOP and Wistar Institute Staff members qualify for the faculty/staff membership fee. Visit eligibility and fees for more information.
How do I sign up for a membership?
Do Undergraduate Students need to purchase a membership?
No. All full-time Undergraduates are assessed a Recreation Fee which includes access to all PennRec facilities. Part-time undergraduates, exchange students, and graduate students are required to purchase a membership. Visit eligibility and fees for more information.
Does PennRec offer Month-to-Month Membership options?
No. Our membership year begins September 1st and expires on August 31st of the following year. You may join at any point. For more information on membership options visit eligibility and fees.
What methods of payment are accepted for membership?
We accept Visa, MasterCard, cash (exact change only) or Check. Full-time faculty and staff paid by the University may elect to pay via payroll deduction.
When does my membership expire?
All memberships expire August 31st and must be renewed each year by completing an application in the Membership Services Office or renewing online.
Does PennRec offer a membership just for the Sheerr Pool?
No. Use of the Sheerr Pool is included in the PennRec Membership and is not offered as a separate membership. For more information on membership options please visit eligibility and fees.
Does PennRec offer a Group Exercise Only Membership?
No. PennRec does not offer a discounted membership for classes only. A PennRec Membership is required to purchase a group exercise pass. However, a PennRec Membership is not required to purchase an instructional course. All instructional courses (i.e. karate, golf, yoga, dance, and Pilates) may be purchased at a non-member rate allowing access only at class time. Is there daycare available at the gym?
There are no daycare services available in any of our facilities.
Can I bring guests?
For an additional cost, members may sponsor up to 2 guests per day. For more information on this policy please visit the Guest and Day Pass page.
I forgot my PennCard. Can I still access the facilities?
Yes. To access the facilities, you must present a government issued photo ID (i.e. Passport, Driver’s License, etc.). This option can only be used twice per semester. Please note, that you must have an active membership to enter. For more information on this policy please visit eligibility and fees.
Can I cancel my membership?
No. All memberships are final, non-refundable and expire on August 31st. Faculty and staff enrolled in payroll deduction have the option to stop monthly or weekly deductions with 30 days advance notice. Please note a $25.00 processing fee will be applied.
