Run DONT Walk!!
The University of Pennsylvania’s Running Club recently held their annual Penn Invitational Running Relay. This year’s invitational brought in 220 athletes from 18 different universities including; Drexel University, University of Kentucky, Penn State, Harvard, Cairn University, University of Massachusetts Lowell and more. The 220 Runners gathered in Franklin Field for what would be a warm Sunday afternoon. The first gun sounded off at 1pm and the Women’s Swedish Relay (100m, 200m, 300m, 400m) started off the first of several track events. The events there after included; Men’s Swedish Relay (100m, 200m, 300m, 400m), Women’s 4x800m Men’s 4x800m Women’s SMR (400m, 200m, 200m, 800m), Men’s SMR (400m, 200m, 200m, 800m), Women’s Open Mile, Men’s Open Mile, Women’s 4x200m, Men’s 4x200m, Women’s DMR (1200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m), Men’s DMR (1200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m), Women’s 4x100m, Men’s 4x100m, Women’s 4xMile,Men’s 4xMile, Women’s 4x400m, Men’s 4x400m. Men and Women athletes practically ran out of their shoes on Sunday and many took home some nice hardware because of it. The highlight of the day for the UPenn Running Club was when the Women’s 4×100 relay team won the event for the first time ever. The Running Club will next set their sights on the NIRCA Spring Nationals in Bloomington, IN taking place April 8th-9th.
Sports Club had another successful fall semester with several of our clubs receiving honors from their respected associations and many other competed in post-season play. We want to welcome everyone back and we hope to continue that success into the spring seasons. So please don’t miss out on some of our upcoming events, take a break from all that studying and relieve some stress while you take in some competitive play.

UPenn Cycling Club kicked off their spring season in their own city with the annual Philly Phlyer. The Club’s best finish was 2nd place in the men’s C race by Bryan Simpson. In the men’s A field, Derrick Butler secured a top 10 finish, while club president Alex Kellum managed 12th. Rachel Pederson finished 11th in the Women’s C field. In addition both Michael Neinast, Mark McShane, finished 20th in their respective fields. Their season consists of a long road ending in Providence, RI with the ECCC Championships.
Elizabeth Kobe is a member of the Women’s Club Basketball team. The Club team just recently held there annual home tournament and Kobe was the teams driving force to their 1st place finish. She was able to represent the name on the back of her jersey well when she hit the game winning shot to lift them over Cornell in the championship game.

Hometown: Westlake, Ohio
Highlight: Kobe averaged 9 points for the 5 games in the tournament. We were tied with Cornell in the championship game when she hit the game winning 3 with 5 seconds left. She also received the all-tournament player award at regionals back in February.
Fun fact: Kobe was a paid movie extra (playing the highly challenging role of a college student) in The Fate of the Furious
