Baseball
Mission Statement: The Penn Men’s Club Baseball team is an athletic organization that strives to provide student-athletes with the opportunity to compete at a high level while developing a strong sense of team values and camaraderie.
The Team:
The number of players varies yearly but usually sits between twenty-five and thirty-five, ranging from freshman to graduate students and university faculty. We expect to represent Penn and PennRec at the highest standard of performance whether on or off the field. There are four team-selected governing officers, President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer.
Competition:
As of 2007, the team is a member of the Mid Atlantic Baseball Alliance (MABA) which is comprised of eight collegiate teams from the southeast Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey region. These teams include: Villanova, Princeton, Lehigh, Bucknell, Atlantic Cape Community College (ACC), Montgomery County Community College (MONTCO), and Northampton Community College. Exhibition games are also scheduled against: Johns Hopkins Junior Varsity, Drexel, Williamson Trade College, and Cumberland County Community College. We have both a spring (full) and a fall (shortened) competition season. Games occur during weekday evenings, as well as on weekends (doubleheaders). Special invitation tournaments will also be scheduled in season. In all, the team aims to play thirty games over the course of both seasons. The fall season runs from late September through October, and the spring season from early March through May.
Making the Team:
The team holds tryouts between the middle of September and early October, and teams are selected based upon reviews by the club officers. Notices and announcements will be posted prior to the date of the tryout, and the club will advertise during the club fair in early September.
