Intramural Sport Divisions

Summer Softball divisions are recreational and competitive. All other intramural sports divisions (except Greek) will have Men's, Women's, and Co-Rec leagues.

Competitive Division
This division is for Penn undergraduate students who are highly skilled, experienced players and is designed to be a competitive league.

Recreational Division
This division is for Penn undergraduate students who are looking for participation, fitness, socializing and fun.

Open
This division is for Penn faculty & staff as well Community Resident and Alumni recreation members. League format will depend on the number of teams entered.

Greek
This division is designed for members of Greek organizations (fraternities & sororities), and is limited to one team per charter. Additional teams must be entered in the competitive or recreational leagues. There will be two overall champions (fraternity & sorority) declared in this division, based on performance in each of the sanctioned IM activities.

Note: All members of teams that play in the Competitive or Recreational Division must have Pottruck Center membership or the team must compete in the Open division.

2009-2010 Sports:

With the construction of Penn Park beginning, Bower field has been closed permanently. Outdoor Intramurals will be played on High Line field (31st and Chestnut). An entry cap will be placed on Flag football limiting the number of teams accepted into the league. Teams will be registered on a first come first serve basis during the listed registration period. Intramural Softball will be cancelled for the Fall semester. We apologize for the inconvenience and look forward to a state of the art recreational park that will accommodate a broader range of recreational activities.

How to register for an Intramural Sport event

Individuals who would like to participate in competitive or recreational intramural sports activities can do so in the following manner:

  1. Get a roster form. Forms are available at the Pottruck Center, or here.
  2. Assemble your team. You should have at least as many players as it takes to field a team plus two extras before turning in the form.
  3. Complete the roster form. Fill out the form with all team member names. Additionally, all players must sign a waiver form before participating. Be sure to select the division you wish to play in.
  4. Captain's agreement. Captains must also read and sign the captain's agreement form, which is available at the same locations as the roster.
  5. Return the forms. Return completed forms (accompanied by the appropriate fee, check or money order only) during the specified entry period.
  6. Attend the Meeting. A team representative (preferably the captain) must attend the informational meeting at the scheduled time.
  7. If you don't have a team. You can sign up on our "Free Agent" list. We will provide this list to teams that are in need of extra players. A person on the free agent list could also form a team from the names on the list.
