Assigning Course Work to Careers
Academic Records

Although SRS assigns courses to careers based on some default rules, it is often necessary to change the assigned pointers to add pointers if you want the course to be applied to a different career or not applied at all.

Each SCE, or student Course Entry, has up to four career pointers associated with it: P, 1, 2, and 3. ALL SCEs have a value in the P pointer indicating if the SCE applies to the primary program, the secondary , both programs or neither program. Pointers 1, 2, and 3 to are used to assign the SCE to a program OTHER than the primary or secondary. These pointers take as values the career codes themselves.

Course work to be applied to the career of the SECONDARY program of any submatriculation must be manually assigned by authorized users.

Example: An undergraduate Nursing student is submatriculating in

the graduate Nursing program. The course work for the term is

automatically assigned to the primary (undergraduate) program. It must

have the career pointer changed to B (both) for both programs.

Although a student may be active in more than two academic programs simultaneously, SRS only displays two programs for any given term on Screen 111, Academic Term Detail and automatically assigns SCEs based ONLY on these two programs. If you want to assign course work to the third program, you must do so manually.

Example: A student is a dual-degree submatric in the College, Wharton, and Graduate Arts and Sciences. The term record shows the

College program primary and the Wharton program secondary. All SCEs are marked B (both) to apply to both undergraduate programs. A

course that counts toward the graduate program must have the pointer number 1 set to PG (the career code for the graduate program).

You may want to assign course work to a career OTHER than one that is open during the term the course was taken. To point an SCE toward an additional career, enter the appropriate career code in one of the pointers numbered 1, 2 or 3.
