Students have academic term detail data for every term in which they are activated. "Activation" does not necessarily mean the student actually is enrolled in any courses, it just means that the system has created a term detail record for them.
Activation only becomes important when you need to delete student's academic records. See Student Files for more information.
A student cannot be activated or registered in a term unless he or she has an APS entry that is valid for that term (based on the boundaries set by the entry and exit terms).
RULE: You cannot activate a student in a term for which there is no valid APS entry.
Students are "activated" when an academic term detail record is opened for them. You do not need to activate students before registering them for courses.
If a student has a valid APS entry for the term, he or she may be activated by:
- requesting courses for that term
- updating any student term attribute data for that term
- pressing ENTER on Screen 111, Student Academic Term Detail
