Entering Course Requests in Advance Registration

During Advance Registration, SRS collects data that will be used by the batch scheduling process in prioritizing the student's course requests and determining action when a primary request cannot be satisfied.

Just beneath each primary request is an additional line on which an alternate request may be specified.

Although course requests are normally prioritized by the scheduler in the order in which they are entered on the screen, the student may assert a sequencing order by numbering the course requests in the SEQ Field. This option is available through Penn InTouch.

To enter a course request in Advance Registration:

-

Establish context by entering the SID and TERM on Screen 1A4.

-

Press Enter.

-

Tab to the first blank line under * and type R, for request.

-

Type the ten-character course ID for the course section you are requesting.

Will the student accept any section of the requested course?

- If yes: go on to the next step.

- If no: type N on the blank line under ANY.

-

If the course is for variable credit, does the student want more the minimum credit?

- If no: go on to the next step.

- If yes: tab to the CRED field and type the desired

credit value for the course.

NOTE: If you enter an incorrect credit value, the

system will automatically display either the minimum

or the maximum credit value of the course, whichever

is the closest to your entry.

-

Is the student taking the course for his/her division's normal grading (for example, NOT pass/fail or audit)?

- If yes: go on to the next step.

- If no: tab to the set of blank lines under the GT field and type the appropriate grade type code or use the PF2

on-line help key for values.

-

Does the student want the requests to be considered by the scheduler in the order in which they are entered?

- If yes: go on to the next step.

- If no: tab to the blank line under the SEQ field and type the number in which the request should be considered.

-

Does the student want to enter a paired alternate course request?

- If yes: tab to the blank directly beneath the primary request.

Repeat the steps for the course ID, variable credit, and grade type.

- If no: go on to the next step.

-

Are there more course requests to be entered?

- If yes: repeat all but the first step

- If no: go on to the next step.

-

Press Enter.

You should receive messages about each course request's status.

When you enter course requests, the system displays messages about the status of the course requests. In addition, the system displays a value in the RSN (Reason) field associated with the course request. The combination of messages and reason codes tells you the request status.
