A course definition is a unique combination of title, credit and activities. A change in any one of these constitutes a new course definition. This means that you are required to close out the old definition and open a new one on the 125 Screen.
SRS maintains a record of up to four definitions of a course in the Course Inventory, each with its own begin and optional end terms. ONLY ONE DEFINITION OF THE COURSE MAY BE ACTIVE (USED) AT ANY GIVEN TIME. The system assumes that all but one of the definitions are obsolete and that the active definition of the course is the one without an end, unless otherwise specified.
Substantive changes to a course, in a term later than the first term the course was offered, require a new definition of an existing course.
Substantive changes to a course include:
See Discontinuing a Course to discontinue the previous version of the course.
A possible error message you may encounter when establishing a new course definition is:
"COURSE INVENTORY FULL; CANNOT ADD"
Translation: There are already four definitions for this course in the Inventory. The earliest definition must be deleted before you may add a
new definition. In order to delete a course from the Inventory, you must notify the Assistant Registrar for Scheduling at 898-1562 or the
Course and Classroom Scheduling Coordinator at 898-6413.
