You can set up "requirements" for co-requisite sections. If students register for one section, the system will inform them that they should also register for the co-requisite section.

These "requirements" are informational; the system does not prevent students from enrolling in courses without enrolling in co-requisite sections. The system will present a diagnostic message each time it detects that a co-requisite section is missing from the student's list of course requisites. The message remains on the registration screens until the student enrolls in all the co-requisites defined for that course.

The Registrar's Office runs a job prior to the Scheduler Run for Advance Registration and during the Drop/Add period which will drop all courses for which the student has no corresponding co-requisite.

The following table lists the types of co-requisites available. The Code is the value you would enter in CTL TYPE field on Screen 131 to establish this type of relationship.

Activity Co-requisite (CA)

-

Course section includes one type of activity. Course definition, on the Course Inventory File, mandates more than one type of activity. The system creates a co-requisite relationship between the sections with the other activity types.

Course Co-requisite (CC)

-

Course section requires that a student take another specific course. It is not important which section of that other course is taken. The VALUE field includes the seven-character Course ID for the co-requisite course.

NOTE: The co-requisite course must already exist on the Course Inventory File.

Section Co-requisite (CS)

-

Course section requires that a student take another course. The specific section is important. The VALUE field contains the 10 character Course ID including section number.

NOTE: The co-requisite section must already exist on the Course Term File.

To set up requirements for co-requisites:

-

Establish context line by entering the COURSE and the TERM on Screen 131.

-

Press Enter.

-

Tab to the CTL TYPE field and type the code representing the type of co-requisite you want to establish.

-

Tab to the VALUE column and type the value (activity, course ID, or course ID/section number) that corresponds to the CTL TYPE field.

-

Press Enter.

-

The system responds with a decoded DESCRIPTION of the requirement you have entered.
