Entering Permits/Authorizations
during Advance Registration

When necessary during Advance Registration, authorized department users enter permits and authorizations on Screen 1A4, Advance Registration, for the appropriate students who request their courses.

Permits and authorizations may be entered either before or after students have requested the courses. The system will hold the permit/authorization until the Advance Registration scheduler is run and students are enrolled in courses.

After the scheduler is run, all unused permits and authorizations are removed from the students' records. They do not remain available for requests during the registration/drop/request period. See "Advance Registration" for more information.

SRS maintains a tally of permits that have been posted but have not been claimed by students' course requests. These counts appear in the PERMITS fields on Screen 129, Course Section Maintenance and Screen 131, Section Registration Controls.

SRS does not maintain a count of authorizations.

An authorization issued during Advance Registration allows a student to compete for a space in the course section, subject to the priority rule established for that section. It does not override maximum enrollment limits.

Example:

If a course is set up for Wharton Undergraduate Division students only, an instructor may issue an authorization to a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences to take the course. The authorization bypasses the registration control (quota), but not the priority schedule rule. The

student maintains his or her standing as a sophomore non- major in the priority rule.

A permit guarantees the student a seat in the course. It will override the maximum enrollment limits.
