Requesting a Course Section

During the Registration Drop/Request period, students may drop and/or request course sections:

-

through Penn InTouch on the World Wide Web or

-

through authorized department/school staff, on-line, using the Registration Drop/Request Worksheet

Since students, not staff, will be registering on Penn InTouch, instructions for these registrations are not included in this documentation. See the Timetable or Course and Room Roster for these registration instructions.

Students may have up to 30 course requests, but Screen 104 can only display 15 of them at a time. If the first screen is full, you must scroll to the second screen to enter or display more course requests. The system displays a message telling you what to do.

If the screen is already full when you first display it, you simply press Enter to view the next screen. If you fill the last entry on a screen, you press PF8 to obtain more blank lines for further input.

To request a course:

-

Establish the context line by entering the SID and TERM on Screen 104.

-

Press Enter.

-

Tab to the first blank line under *. Type R, for request.

NOTE: if you are requesting more than one course at a

time, you may type R in the global FUNCTION field, below the SCREEN field.

-

Type the ten-character course ID. (If using global FUNCTION, you must tab to the COURSE ID field.)

-

Is the course for variable or alternate credit?

- If yes: tab to the CRED field and type the four-character credit amount, with two decimal places.

- If no: go to the next step.

-

Is the course for a special grade type (such as P/F or audit)?

- If yes: tab to the GT field and type the appropriate grade type or use the PF2, on-line help key.

- If no: go to the next step.

-

Repeat all but the first step for every course request.

-

Press Enter.

You should receive a message regarding the status of each course entry.

See Registration Messages for more information.
