Identifying the Status of a Submited Protocol

PIs can use BEN Reports to identify the status of a protocol submitted to ORA for IACUC or IRB review.

  1. Point your browser to BEN Reports (http://www.upenn.edu/u@penn, note location).

  3. Sign in using the PI's (principal investigator's) PennKey ID and password.

  5. Proceed to BEN Reports. To reach BEN Reports, click on the "Business" tab at the top of the screen. The link to BEN Reports can be found in the "Business Administration" section, under "Administrative Systems"

  7. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and click on "Protocol Status Report"

  9. Use the icons to the right of the "PI Name" and "Sponsor Name" to select the relevant individual and sponsor.

  11. Click the "Run Report" box.

    BEN Reports
    Meaning
    The protocol is not listed The protocol has not been logged in at ORA.
    The report lists a receipt date but not a review date
    The protocol has not been scheduled for IRB review. ORA is in the process of pre-screening the submission for placement on the appropriate IRB committee meeting agenda.
    The report lists a review date
    The protocol has been cleared for formal IRB review on the date indicated.

  13. If your protocol has been scheduled for review and you know the review date, you can use the meeting schedule to identify which IRB will be conducting the review and to get contact information for that IRB.
