Grants.gov

Grants.gov allows organizations and individuals to electronically find and apply for competitive grant opportunities from all Federal grant-making agencies. Grants.gov is THE single access point for over 1000 grant programs offered by the 26 Federal grant-making agencies. By the end of fiscal year 2007, all grant applications for these agencies will be submitted through grants.gov.

Penn's long term strategy for submitting proposals electronically through Grants.gov (as well as to other sponsors) is to utilize a Proposal Development module in PennERA. Work is underway in earnest on this module which will facilitate investigators creating their proposals, route them for internal approvals and then submit the resulting data set to Grants.gov via an XML data-stream.

In the near term, the mechanism is to use Grants.gov's PureEdge e-form solution.

General Info:

Only the Authorized Organizational Representative (AOR) needs to register in grants.gov in order to submit applications for an organization. Individual program directors and principal investigators do not need to register.

PI must download PureEdge viewer.

PI must have PDF creation software.

For NIH submissions, PI must also be registered in the NIH Commons. Currently there is no native Macintosh client for PureEdge software. Macintosh users need Windows emulation program and special instructions or work entirely on-line using a Citrix server solution with Grants.gov. Grants.gov promises a real Mac solution for PureEdge sometime in 2006.
