Welcome to the Ricciardi Lab at the University of Pennsylvania
The mission of the Ricciardi Lab is to discover basic mechanisms that govern diesease and to apply this information for attaining practical solutions.
A major area of study focuses on Processivity Factors. Processivity Factors are essential for DNA synthesis. Fundamentally, they function as sliding-clamps that keep their cognate Polymerases tethered to the DNA during strand-synthesis.
Processivity Factors are now recognized as novel targets for drug discovery since they are essential for replication, but are unique to every virus. By this approach, therapeutics can be developed for a wide-range of different infectious diseases. Learn more
