Commencement 2012
Gray skies and a light sprinkle couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm as 5,858 graduates made their way to Franklin Field for Penn’s 256th Commencement on May 14. University Chaplain Charles L. Howard urged the Class of 2012 to offer thanks to their parents and other loved ones and to the faculty, staff and administration that helped them achieve their goals.

Ethically Impossible
The Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues, chaired by Penn President Amy Gutmann, has completed the first phase of an important study on U.S.-funded research conducted in the 1940s in Guatemala that involved intentionally exposing and infecting vulnerable populations to sexually transmitted diseases without the subjects' consent.

2011 White Coat Ceremony
On August 12, Larry Jameson, the newly inaugurated executive vice president of the University for the Health System and dean of the Perelman School of Medicine, helped launch the medical school careers of 170 first-year students as they donned their first white coats and marked the beginning of their journey into the art and science of healing.
