Commencement 2012
Gray skies and a light sprinkle couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm as 5,858 graduates made their way to Franklin Field for Penn’s 256th Commencement on May 14. University Chaplain Charles L. Howard urged the Class of 2012 to offer thanks to their parents and other loved ones and to the faculty, staff and administration that helped them achieve their goals.

Tapping the History of Philly’s Trees
The Woodlands, a 54-acre historic site and cemetery in University City, is the final resting place for many prominent Philadelphians. Paul Philippe Cret, the architect, planner, and former professor in what was then called Penn’s School of Fine Arts is buried there, as are several members of the Drexel family, and renowned American painter Thomas Eakins.

Integrated Studies at Penn
This fall, Penn launched a new undergraduate program in Integrated Studies. The program is designed around the idea that no single discipline or perspective can be applied to complex problems; instead, students tackle problems using multiple disciplines and approaches.
