Dan Garofalo Dan Garofalo
ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY COORDINATOR

A native of Montvale, New Jersey, Dan moved to West Philadelphia in 1985 and joined Penn Facilities and Real Estate Services in 2001 as a planner and architect. He received a bachelor's degree in Architecture from the University of Virginia, a master's degree in Architecture from Penn’s School of Design, and a master’s degree in Government Administration from Penn’s Fels Institute of Government.

Dan served twice as a Peace Corps volunteer, first in Malawi as the architect in charge of design for the capital city of Lilongwe from 1992 to 1994, and later on a three-month assignment in Sri Lanka to assist in disaster recovery after the tsunami in 2005.  Dan is a LEED accredited architect and a founding member of the Delaware Valley Green Building Council, where he currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors. He is also the founder of Community Design Collaborative, Philadelphia’s pro-bono design center.

In April 2008, Dan was named the University’s first Environmental Sustainability Coordinator in response to President Amy Gutmann’s 2007 signing of the American College and University Presidents' Climate Commitment.
   
Sarah Sarah Fisher
SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGIC PLANNING ASSOCIATE

Sarah received a master's degree in City Planning, with a concentration in Land Use and Environmental Planning, at Penn in 2009. While in graduate school, she was an intern with the Clinton Climate Initiative at the Clinton Foundation in New York City and Philadelphia. Sarah graduated from American University in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in Global Environmental Politics and a minor in Spanish. Sarah spent time in Santiago, Chile, during undergrad where she took classes at Universidad Diego Portales and worked at La Comisión del Medio Ambiente. Sarah has been an intern at Partner for People and Place (PPP) in her hometown of Athens, Georgia. She completed field work in Haiti on a health clinic project for PPP.

As a Sustainability Associate, Sarah aided in the development of the University’s Climate Action Plan and will help to oversee the collection of metrics to monitor its progress. Sarah also currently serves as project manager for the Green Fund along with other sustainability initiatives Penn is pursuing.
   
Julian Julian Goresko
SUSTAINABILITY STUDENT OUTREACH ASSOCIATE

Julian grew up in the Philadelphia area and graduated from Penn magna cum laude in 2009 with a B.A. in environmental studies. He currently works as the coordinator for Penn's student Eco-Reps program and is helping to develop a similar program for the Penn staff community. Julian lives in West Philadelphia and is currently enrolled in Penn's Master of Environmental Studies (MES) program, where he hopes to focus on opportunities for fostering sustainable behavior in the consumer, corporate, and institutional sectors.

Before joining the Green Campus Partnership, Julian interned in EPA's Region 3 Office in Philadelphia. He is also a former contributor to the National Advisory Council on Environmental Policy and Technology, a group of individuals from the private, public, academic, and advocacy sectors developing recommendations for EPA directors since 1988.
