Meet the Sustainability Team
   
Dan Garofalo Dan Garofalo
ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY COORDINATOR

A native of Princeton, NJ, Dan moved to West Philadelphia and joined Penn Facilities and Real Estate Services in 2001 as a planner and architect. He received a bachelors degree in Architecture from the University of Virginia, a Master's in Architecture from Penn’s School of Design, and a Master’s in Government Administration from Penn’s Fels Institute of Government.

Dan served twice as a Peace Corps volunteer, first in Malawi as the architect in charge of design for the capital city of Lilongwe from 1992 to 1994, and later on a three-month assignment in Sri Lanka to assist in disaster recovery after the tsunami in 2005.  Dan is a LEED accredited architect and a founding member of the Delaware Valley Green Building Council, where he currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors. He is also the founder of Community Design Collaborative, Philadelphia’s pro-bono design center.

In April 2008, Dan was named the University’s first Environmental Sustainability Coordinator in response to President Amy Gutmann’s 2007 signing of the American College and University Presidents' Climate Commitment.
   
 

Steve Belfiglio
SUSTAINABILITY COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE

Steve graduated from Penn in 2007 with a B.A. in Communications. After joining the sustainability team in May 2008, Steve has worked on producing communication materials and educational videos for Penn’s Green Campus Partnership to raise awareness about the University’s commitment to environmental sustainability. His recent focus has been the re-design and maintenance of the Green Campus Partnership website.

   
 

Brittany Bonnette
SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVES ASSOCIATE

Brittany graduated from Penn in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in Urban Studies and PPE (Politics, Philosophy, and Economics). Her passions lie in sustainable transportation, with a specific devotion to bike sharing after a year in Lyon, France revealed to her the benefits of a public-use bicycle system. Now working for Penn, Brittany manages and implemented specific sustainability projects with a focus on transportation related issues as well as other special projects that Penn is addressing.

   
  Sarah-Jane Littleford
CARBON REDUCTION & ACUPCC LIAISON
Sarah-Jane graduated from Penn in 2009 with double major in Sustainable Development and Environmental Studies with a concentration in Psychology. Growing up in Zimbabwe, she became interested in the natural environment at a young age, and has translated that interest into employment at Penn. Her work with the Green Campus Partnership focuses on ensuring that the University meets its commitment to the President’s Climate Commitment, and remains on track with the various targets that the pledge involves. Sarah-Jane is a volunteer for the Philadelphia Global Water Initiative, a Philly-based non-profit committed to helping to meet the UN Millennium Development Goals for water and sanitation. She is also a Spinning® instructor at Pottruck gym.
