Penn Video Network is not a primary programmer; we
are only a distribution service, much like Time Warner
Cable or Comcast Cable. We do not control the programming
of any non-Penn channels. (The Penn
channels are 2, 11, 22, 24, 26, and 75.)
PVN has no control over what the non-Penn cable channels
do or do not choose to broadcast.
Occasionally, a local team game (the Philadelphia 76ers,
Flyers, Eagles, etc.) will be scheduled to air but
then the listed broadcaster will choose not to air
the game, or to air replacement programming. This
is called a sports blackout.
Blackout restrictions are determined by the professional
sports leagues and teams. Penn Video Network has
no control over blackout restrictions.
In order for a viewer to be eligible for a particular
team's games, his/her zip code must fall within that
team's territory defined by the leagues based-upon
zip code. If a viewer's zip code falls outside of
the team's territory, she/he will be blacked out regardless
of what programming may be listed. Again, PVN has
no control over the blackout restrictions but must
follow the rules as the leagues define them.
As ESPN is PVN's primary sports broadcaster, you may
want to learn more about their policy regarding ESPN-specific
blackouts. They state the following on their
website:
"Please understand that ESPN, Inc., would prefer
not to blackout any areas for the events we televise.
However, they are contractually obligated to do
so. Blackouts will occur in selected areas, as
determined by leagues or conferences, in order
to protect their local and regional television
commitments and/or to protect ticket sales. ESPN
and ESPN2 provide alternate programming to those
areas when a team plays in a national game, home
or away."
