Joshua Bennett wins Marshall Scholarship December 01, 2009

CURF is pleased to announce that Joshua Bennett (COL ’10) has been awarded a Marshall Scholarship for graduate study in the United Kingdom next year. Joshua is majoring in English & Africana Studies, and he plans to attend the University of Warwick, where he will be pursuing an MA in Theatre and Performance Studies. In addition to his studies, Joshua has demonstrated a significant aptitude for leadership, on and off the Penn campus. He is the co-founder and former political action chair of the Penn NAACP chapter, co-founder and chair of the advocacy group Black Men United, and co-founder and co-editor of the first undergraduate research journal of Africana Studies in the United States (The ESU Review), among many other leadership roles. Joshua is also an accomplished writer and performer of spoken word, has performed for President Barack Obama at the White House, and in many other venues alongside U.S. Poet Laureates and world-renowned actors. Finally, but certainly not least, Joshua has been an active and contributing member of the CURF family, participating in the University Scholars program and volunteering to be an Undergraduate Research Peer Advisor. We are incredibly proud of Joshua, and we wish him all the best in his future pursuits.
