Lorraine Beitler Collection of the Dreyfus Affair Summer 2013 Internship
This internship will be of interest to students studying history, journalism, French, Jewish Studies, human rights, or law.
Housed in the Penn Rare Book and Manuscript Library, the Lorraine Beitler Collection of the Dreyfus Affair comprises one of the country’s most significant collections of materials on the Dreyfus Affair, a major political and cultural crisis in late nineteenth-century France. The Collection includes posters, broadsides, newspapers, magazines, prints, caricatures, books, and postcards; there are also significant related holdings in the rare book collections. Materials in the collection document antisemitism; military power and injustice; and the power of media to influence public opinion. Parts of the Collection have been exhibited at venues around the world, and a significant and growing Collection website has been created at:
http://sceti.library.upenn.edu/dreyfus/

- Assistance with organization and cataloging of collection materials
- Historical research on the Affair and on late nineteenth-century France
- Preparation of materials for inclusion on the collection website
- Attendance at meetings to plan future events and activities
