Course Term File Roll

The Course Term File contains a record for every section offered in every term. Much of that information remains constant from term to term: same title, same instructor, and often the same time and room.

The Course Term File Roll program takes one term and copies most of the information into the next like term. Some information, like course title, is replaced with the current values in the Course Inventory File. Other information, like instructor, time, and room, can be omitted or copied at your option. Once the course information has been "rolled" to the new term, you can change it as needed.

The Course Term File Roll process assumes that Course Inventory data is primary, and that differences between the Inventory and the Course Term File are one-time exceptions.

When the Roll process creates a new section, it takes the following items from the Course Inventory File:

These items override any changes made the previous term on individual sections.

When the Roll process creates a new section, it may take the following items from the previous like term on the Course Term File: Maximum enrollment may be copied from the previous like term, set back to the inventory value, or reset to the system default value. All other items may be copied from the previous like term or reset to the system default value.
