Penn Research Statistics
The research enterprise at Penn is a large one and has been growing
substantially. The two graphs reflect this growth, and indicate that
in FY02 Penn received more than $600,000,000 in research awards from
extramural sponsors. In current dollars this represents a growth rate
of about 10% compounded annually over the last 10 years.
Funding comes primarily from the Federal government (about 85%), with
the remainder from not-for-profit foundations and associations (about
10%), and from commercial sponsors (<5%).
