    Caleb Foote

Dr. Caleb Foote, former professor of law, died March 4 at the age of 88.

Born in Cambridge, MA, Dr. Foote earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard University in 1939, his master’s degree in economics in 1941, and his L.L.B. from Penn in 1953, at which time he was editor of the Law Review.

Before coming to Penn, Dr. Foote was the executive director of the Central Committee for Conscientious Objectors. In 1953, he became a professor of law at Penn. After leaving Penn, Dr. Foote became a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, where he served from 1965 until his retirement in 1985. He also held an appointment at the University of Nebraska.

Dr. Foote is survived by his wife, Hope; daughter, Heather; sons, Robert, Andrew, Ethan and David; and four grandchildren.

    Memorial for Dr. Graham

The department of classical studies will hold a memorial service Tuesday, April 25 for Dr. A. John Graham, who died December 26, 2005 at the age of 75 (Almanac January 31, 2006). The service will begin at 5 p.m. in the Rosenwald Gallery of the Van Pelt-Dietrich Library.

Memorial for Dr. van de Walle

A memorial celebration of the life and career of Dr. Etienne van de Walle will be held Friday, May 5, from 4-6 p.m., at Penn’s McNeil Center for Early American Studies Bldg., first floor, Stephanie Grauman Wolf Room, 3355 Woodland Walk (located near 34th and Walnut Streets). (This is not the McNeil Building on Locust Walk between 37th and 38th.) Dr. van de Walle died March 21 at age 73 (Almanac March 28, 2006). For further information, see www.pop.upenn.edu/people/vandeWalle/Etienne.html.

    Correction

In the obituary for Ms. Ann Rhoads (Almanac April 11, 2006), we inadvertently omitted some of her survivors: her sister, Sr. Shawn Maguire S.N.D.; brothers, J. Patrick Maguire, Daniel Maguire, and Michael Maguire. Also, Ms. Rhoads is only survived by one parent, John C. Maguire. We regret the errors.                                       —Eds.
